The Aerial Restoration of Nature and Open Land with Drones Project
The A.R.N.O.L.D. Project aims to automate the litter collection and recycling process through the use of specialized drones for a faster, safer, and more efficient process. Basically, we use drones to pick up litter 🙂.
Although initially the intention was to operate as a non-profit, The A.R.N.O.L.D. Project is an employee-owned public benefit corporation. We place significant value on cooperation with non-profits and other volunteer organizations in order to fully tackle the litter problem. The objective of this project is to support the efforts made by volunteer groups, non-profits, and individuals around the world who are dedicated to creating a cleaner environment.
The Idea
Building drones automated to the task of surveying areas of land, finding & picking up litter, and ultimately having that litter recycled.
The Litter Problem
Litter is detramental to the environment, and it acts contrary to the many efforts being made around the world to create a cleaner environment. In addition to this, the scale of the problem exceeds the rate in which the litter is collected by volunteers.
The Solution
Drones deployed by The A.R.N.O.L.D. Project will possess the following:
Object identification software to identify environmental anomalies (litter), and it's material
GPS & automated navigation capabilities for autonomous flight paths & operations
Drone-based tools, such as a manipulation arm, for picking up litter.Â
The litter collected will be brought to material-specific (aluminum, plastic, paper, etc.) bins stored on service sites.Â
Object Identification V0.01
The Company
Although initially the intention was to operate as a non-profit, The A.R.N.O.L.D. Project is an an employee-owned public benefit corporation. We place significant value on cooperation with non-profits and other volunteer organizations in order to fully tackle the litter problem.
Pricing
Based on the studied below (specifically, the Pennsylvania Litter Research Study), which outlines current government spending, we've set our price at $1,750 per square mile covered.
